BEARS Onboarding has officially launched!

August 23, 2022

(Editor's note: The following was communicated to key contacts in the BEARS Region on 8/19/22)

Dear Campus Colleagues,

I am writing today with the good news that effective 8/15/22, the BEARS Region “officially” began providing onboarding services directly to Berkeley employees for the campus departments we serve.

Here is what you’ll experience:

  • Improved logistics - Employees will now have increased access to onboarding appointments! Employees are now able to schedule their video-based onboarding session to verify their work authorization documentation Monday thru Friday 9AM-5PM.
  • Decreased handoffs - The onboarding processes will be performed and completely managed by the BEARS Onboarding Team. This consists of the hiring paperwork as well as the verification of compliance documents such as Federal Form I-9 and the University of California Oath and Patent.
  • Increased employee satisfaction - BEARS aims to provide a streamlined process that will be continuously improved to ensure the new employee, and their hiring department, have the support they need.
  • Reduced risk and lost productivity - BEARS is working to increase compliance with federal, state, and University policies, to ensure timely pay and reduce the setup time for new employees to access various campus systems.

Members of the BEARS Onboarding Team, Tiffany Hampton-Amons, Jessica Adaya, and Nika Harper, will strive to make a more personal connection with your employees. They will coordinate onboarding activities from A - Z including:

  • Communicating directly with those new hires
  • Sending the DocuSign package(s)
  • Coordinating Onboarding Appointment registrations
  • Facilitating new employee steps with the UCPath Center, and lastly,
  • Handling the final hiring and compliance paperwork for your new staff

Our BEARS regional website has been updated with onboarding information for reference. We are excited to work with you and your department/units to make this a successful effort and improve the overall new employee experience here at Berkeley. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional assistance and know your BEARS HR Supervisors, Partners, and Generalists are here to help too.

Regards,

Dominga Estrada
